What we're looking for:
For our 2023 annual conference, we are looking for dynamic speakers who will present on content that is of interest to advanced practice providers who work in all areas of surgery as well as those who perform trauma or emergency procedures.
• We will examine new and innovative procedures taking place in all aspects of pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative care.
• We will talk about new medications that impact the care of surgical patients.
• We will examine different roles advanced practice providers play in inpatient and outpatient settings and how they can become role models and leaders in their positions.
• We will talk about ways to make your work-like better: improving communication with patients and colleagues, getting the support you need at work, and how to bill properly for your services.
• Specific areas of interest: neurosurgery, ENT surgery, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, breast surgery, transplant surgery, vascular surgery, plastic surgery, thoracic surgery, cardiothoracic surgery, trauma surgery, pediatric surgery, urology, wound care, COVID, new procedures, new medications/technology that may impact surgical care, and topics that encourage cultural competency and diversity within the profession.

Michelle Dellene Heine, PA-C is a passionate surgical physician assistant striving to bring excellence to all her patients. She has experience in trauma neurosurgery, aesthetics, general surgery, and robotics. She strives to deliver high quality care, enthusiasm, and optimism. She was awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology & Cell Science from the University of Florida in 2013 and her Master of Medical Science from Nova Southeastern University in 2016. During the COVID-19 pandemic she became a registered yoga teacher and lifestyle coach and currently is working as an entrepreneur with the mission to Heal the Healers. Her 2022 goal is to open her own surgical practice with an emphasis on lifestyle medicine and philanthropy

Scott is certified as a Physician Assistant by the NCCPA. Completed an undergraduate bachelor of science degree in Emergency Health Services and received his paramedic certification in 1995 from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Served as a paramedic with New Castle County, Delaware EMS until 2000 when he entered Physician Assistant School. Graduated from Finch University of Health Sciences in 2002 with a Master’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies.
Scott has been working as a Physician Assistant for over 20 years working in Trauma, Critical Care and Acute Care Surgery. Currently serving as the Sepsis Program Manager at Oregon Health and Science University.
Special Interests: Emergency Medical Services, Quality Improvement, Coding and Billing, Disaster Management.

Palliative Care Education
PA Certificate in palliative and serious illness care
PAs are trusted clinicians who provide compassionate, multifaceted care to patients and families at every stage of health, including through serious illness. Delivering care that targets the physical and emotional symptoms of advanced illness requires an extra level of skill and training.
This 12-week online instructor-led course prepares PAs in any practice setting to deliver high-quality care that effectively supports patients with advanced illnesses and their families. You’ll master evidence-based skills and strategies essential in primary palliative care including communication, advance care planning, prognostication, pain and symptom management, psychosocial-spiritual aspects of care, care at the end of life, and more.
*Also appropriate for APPs in any setting.
Program Details:
- Interactive didactic online lessons, prepared by palliative care clinical leaders
- Course material available 24/7
- Supplemental live "Grand Rounds" sessions with your fellow students and an expert PA instructor
- Weekly assignments you complete on your own schedule
- Class size is limited to 25 people
- About 5-7 hours per week spent on learning

The AASPA is looking to add speakers to our monthly webinar panel. Are you interested in providing a webinar on a surgical topic? If so, please contact us!
We are looking for presentations covering content that is of interest to advanced practice providers who work in all areas of surgery as well as those who perform trauma or emergency procedures.
The presentation should be approximately 45-50 minutes in length, and the presenter should be available for an additional 10-15 minutes afterward to allow for questions. The presentation can involve one person or a panel.

Submit Your Articles for Sutureline
Sutureline is the official journal of the American Association of Surgical Physician Assistants (AASPA) and its purpose is to be a platform for members to communicate professionally, stay connected, and advance the surgical physician assistant profession with educational articles and research. Sutureline is published electronically in the spring, fall and winter, and access to the archive of articles is available to AASPA Members. The Editorial Board reviews clinical articles to consider for publication. For questions on submitting a clinical article, please email [email protected].
